Letter P -Peguins, Pajamas, and Pancakes

Day 1
On our letter P cut-out we pasted pink and purple penguins. We read Penguins, Penguins Everywhere by Bob Barner and we had a Penguin Parade. The kids colored their penguin cut-out and decorated it's belly to get it ready for the parade. Then we marched around the room having a penguin parade! We also read Emperor Penguins Up Close by Carmen Bredeson to learn a little more about penguins.
For some silly fun we read Pete's A Pizza by William Steig

Day 2
All the kids wore their pajamas to school to help us learn and celebrate the letter P. We had pancakes for snack. Some stories we read today were...
Pancakes for Breakfast by Tomie DePaola
Curious George Makes Pancakes by H.A. Ray
Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems
The Pigeon Wants a Puppy by Mo Willems
Others we should have read are If You Give a Pig a Pancake or If You Give a Pig a Party by Laura Numeroff

We talked about Mo Willems being the author and illustrator in his book and sang our book song...(tune of The Farmer in the Dell)
The author writes the book, the author writes the book;
Hi Ho Librario, the author writes the book.
The illustrator draws, the illustrator draws;
Hi Ho Librario, the illustrator draws.
The publisher puts it together, the publisher puts it together;
Hi Ho Librario, the publisher puts it together.
The copyright tells us when they made the book, and then,
Hi Ho Librario, let's sing it once again.

Our letter P art activity was to decorate pillowcases. While some of the students decorated their pillowcases others listened to a recording of Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? (This was fun because we just studied the 5 senses last week.)
